How moving averages and oscillators are turned into a trend word

Moving averages

A moving average is the average close over the last N bars (for example 20, 50 or 200). When the price is above most of its moving averages, the recent trend has been up; below most of them, down.

Oscillators

Oscillators such as RSI, Stochastic and MACD measure how stretched or how fast a move has been. Each one votes up, flat or down by a fixed rule.

From votes to a word

Coteau follows TradingView's published method: count the moving-average votes and the oscillator votes, average them, and map the result to Strong downtrend, Downtrend, Neutral, Uptrend or Strong uptrend. The 'N up · N flat · N down' line shows the raw count.

Why timeframes disagree

The same method on 5-minute bars covers the last few hours; on daily bars it covers the last few months. A stock can be falling today inside a rise that has lasted all year, so different rows can point in different directions. That isn't a contradiction, just different windows.
